14th September 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the broadcast of the pilot episode of Irwin Allen's television imagining of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Eleven Days to Zero. 60 years ago, millions of children and their families were entranced by this adventure series, and so many more have discovered the show since. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea is ageless and will hopefully continue to stand the test of time by entertaining many more generations.

It is hard to find the words and is with deep shock that we have to bring you the very sad news that actor and star of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, David Hedison, passed away on Thursday 18th July 2019 at the age of 92. This news is heartbreaking for all his family, friends, and his legion of longtime fans around the world. David gave so much pleasure to so many people through his work in the field of entertainment and his career continued with a wealth of public appearances at conventions and signings. So many of our visitors and members have had the opportunity to meet and chat with David. In our small corner of the entertainment universe, the Irwin Allen world, David is fondly and lovingly remembered for his role of Captain Crane in the hugely popular sci-fi series Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Voyage in peace, our beloved Captain Crane.
Here are just some of the tributes and obituaries paying homage to David Hedison:
A very, very sad start to the new year with the passing on Tuesday 23rd January 2018 of one of the most popular stars of Irwin Allen's television productions, Robert Dowdell, who was best known for his role of Lt. Commander Chip Morton in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Much loved around the globe, Chip was often the straight guy to several other comedic characters in the show, and he played the role superbly. Irwin Allen also featured Robert in two of his made for television movies, City Beneath the Sea (1971) and Outrage (1986). He will be sorely missed by his legion of fans and will live on through his work and the love that engendered. Our thoughts at this time are with all of his family, friends, and fans.
It is with deep sadness that we have learned from his family that our dear friend Terry Becker, Chief Francis Ethelbert Sharkey from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea passed away on Tuesday 30th December 2014.
We are so glad that Terry and his wife Linda were able to attend and enjoy the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea 50th Anniversary Reunion in October 2014, and that attending fans were able to enjoy Terry's wonderful and mischievious sense of humour. We have much to remember Terry by, with his outstanding attendance at the 1998 VIP convention in Sheffield England, and so many fun appearances in Irwin Allen's Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.
We want to echo Allan Hunt's words of warmth when remembering Terry, saying "The Chief lived a long and active life for all of us to admire and appreciate. It was an honor to know and work with him. On Voyage he was a friend and supportive co-worker, as was Del Monroe, rest him."
After some private grieving time and a family service on 5th January, his family have created a very special online memorial where you can leave messages of condolence. Our love and heartfelt sympathies goes to everyone who knew and worked with Terry over his long and illustrious life.
The Hollywood Show on 17-19 October 2014 included a 50th Anniversary Reunion for Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Stars of the series David Hedison, Allan Hunt, Terry Becker and Derrik Lewis (Lieutentant O'Brien in the pilot and first season). The event was held at The Westin Los Angeles Airport Hotel, 5400 West Century Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90045, USA.
On Sunday 14th September 2014, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea celebrates the 50th Golden Anniversary of the first broadcast in 1964. In honour of this very special occasion, we have created a commemorative banner, remembering in particular the crew who "sailed" on the Seaview. Celebrations for the 50th anniversary will continue for the rest of the year including a special reunion of remaining crew members at the Hollywood Show in LA in October.
A unique collectible went up for auction on Ebay on 6 July 2014. It is a hand sewn nylon banner that was hung below the front of the theatre for the Hollywood Premiere of the 1961 "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" movie. The banner is 18 feet long by 30 inches wide.

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea Complete Collection Press Release
Some episodes of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea are now available on DVD in French as Voyage au Fond des Mers (released 31st January 2012). In France, Volume 1 is a 4 disk set containing the first 13 episodes of Season Two.
From the information available, the set sadly does not contain the original English version and there are no French sub-titles. We don’t know why they’ve chosen to start with the Season Two colour episodes but that may be due to not having a version of Season One dubbed into French. If anyone can provide further details on the planned French DVD releases, please contact us.
The episodes included in this half Season Two set are:
1. Jonas et la Baleine (Jonah and the Whale)
2. La bombe Vivante (Time Bomb)
3. … et nous Sommes Cinq Survivants (And Five of Us Are Left)
4. Le Robot (The Cyborg)
5. Le Prisonnier de Venise (Escape from Venice)
6. L’Homme au Bras de Fer (The Left-Handed Man)

5 June 2009 - It was with great sadness that we learned that Del Monroe, Kowalski in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, passed away on Friday 5th June. Del was a great friend of fans around the world and represented all that was wonderful and good about Irwin Allen's worlds. His visit to England in 1998 (for the VIP convention) with fellow Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea stars Terry Becker and Allan Hunt was a moment cherished in the hearts of British fans. He will long be remembered as Kowalski and we send our love and very deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
We are planning to set up a gallery in memory of Del and would welcome any photographs from his TV or convention appearances to add to the tribute. If you can help, please email us using the email option on the IANN contact page.
