Admiral Nelson's naval officer's coat from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (ABC-TV, 1964-68). An original naval dress coat with brass buttons and gold ranking stripes on the cuffs, worn by actor Richard Basehart in his memorable role as the wise and heroic Admiral Harriman Nelson. (The name "Nelson" was producer Irwin Allen's tip of his hat to famous British mariner Horatio Nelson). Internal Davis Clothing Co. label is handwritten "R. Basehart". Accompanied with a 20th Century Fox studio wardrobe continuity photo of Basehart wearing the costume.
Sold for $2500 at the Profiles in History Hollywood Auction 17, 12 December 2003.
Note that the cuff of the Admiral's uniform has a wide gold band with three narrower gold stripes above it.
