Lot #556 Irwin Allen | "Safari" (aka Strange Journeys) Original Television Series Concept Art Pitch Binder Estimate: $2,000 - $3,000 Starting Bid: $500
An original hand-drawn and painted mixed media pitch book from the development of Irwin Allen's proposed series Strange Journeys, which was never produced. The book contains many of the same concepts and artistic designs as the pitchbook draft for Allen's project Safari, which was likely an alternate title for the same series. The pitch book follows the adventures of explorers who encounter the abominable snowman, the fire dragon, a werewolf, a white rhino, a mermaid, giants, a giant spider, and the missing link.
Safari was one of three projects Allen pitched to CBS in 1967. In The Fantasy Worlds of Irwin Allen (Creature Features, 2019), Jeff Bond writes "Big game hunter Richard Hamilton and his companion Yogi Britton operated 'Safari Ltd.,' and the pair loan themselves out for hire for different adventures every week."
