Miniature Lost in Space Board Game
Scratch built 20" Lost in Space Chariot by Bill Hedges. This Lost in Space Chariot was constructed upon a 1980's Kyosho radio controlled tracked vehicle, but everything above that was scratch built. It was built to 1/10th scale to match the Kyosho running gear. The base is wood, the frame is soldered square brass tubing, and the curved windows are made from vacuum formed acrylic plastic. The flat windows are polycarbonate plastic. Although the full size chariot didn't have a table in it, I added one because the original blueprints actually showed one. The robot is a modified Polar Lights one and he talks by means of a digital voice recorder. On the show the robot was split because he was too high to stand in the chariot, and the torso was sat on a lower pedestal. Even though they never showed the split leg section in the chariot, I took another liberty and included that next to the torso, since it had to be stowed somewhere. Some of the extra's were just dollhouse miniatures such as Will's guitar in which he played Greensleeves, the toolbox, and Lost in Space game. The doors are made to open by a latch, the gun hatch dome slides back, the ladder extension steps are removable, and the seats swivel. It took about two and a half months of all my free time to build except for the parkas and curtains which I subcontracted out to my sister-in-law to sew for me. The parkas disguise the fact that I couldn't find the right scale Robinsons to use, the figures are really Enterprise captains Archer and Kirk.
